This hat was made and worn by a Chinese woman of the Bai nationality ethnic minority from Yunnan province. The hat has been meticulously embroidered using both chain stitching and wrapped thread techniques. It is further ornamented with a combination of beads, coins and fabric strips.

This is a traditional Buddhist Lama's hat from Tibet. It is made from hand-knotted pile of cotton fiber, which is gathered to form a crest. There are no rips or tears but the fabric shows areas of dirt from wear. This dramatic looking ethnographic artifact makes a great display piece. It measures approx 24" from the height of the crest to the bottom of the lower straps.

A properly dressed Chinese woman would wear a pair of leggings which would cover her foot bindings from her lower leg to the top of her lotus shoes. The leggings would be tied into place with a hand loomed sash made specifically for that purpose. These lotus shoe accessories are now rare and very hard to find. This unusual inkstone has a carved fitted lid of the same quarried duane stone as its base. There is also a carved figure on each side. Bought in QuiYang in Guizhou province, and is in very good condition. It is approximately 5" x 4" x 1.25" deep.

This pair of Chinese toddlers boots were hand made by the Ethnic minority Miao grandmother. They were worn and are somewhat soiled but the are a fine example of needle arts craftsmanship. The upper boot is made with a series of small fabric pieces folded along a curve and then sewn together into a consistent pattern similar to the window pane quilt pattern.

Manchu women never practiced foot-binding. However, during the Qing dynasty, they did wear pedestal aka platform shoes, hoping to give the appearance of smaller feet. The tips of the shoes would appear to peak out from under the robes, giving the foot more dainty appearance.

This large puppet head dates from the mid 1800's and represents Sun Wu Kong, the "monkey king" who is a beloved character of Chinese folklore. The head is carved from wood, gessoed and painted. It is 12 inches long and retains almost all of the original paint.

I have classified the age of this Naga Hunter's Hat on the conservative side. Potentially, it is much older. It is a traditional hat used by the hunters of India's Northwest mountain state of Naga. The basic shape of the hat is woven of plant fibers. Additional bast fibers are hand twisted into strings which are used to attach the trim strips of bear fur and the metal shape symbolizing a boars tusks.

This wonderful older detailed carving of a bear with a fish in his mouth is from the Ainu people of Japan. The fish appears to be a pacific salmon and is carved from a contrasting wood which heightens the realistic feel of the sculpture.

This piece is in excellant condition and measures 9 inches long,5 inches high, and 5 inches deep. He weights 3 lbs

Lovely gold rimmed Meiji Period Japanese cloisonne charger with intricate floral pattern. The original import label is still attached to the back of the piece. The label indicates that the piece was imported to the US by the A A VanTine of New York, who was one of the first importers of Japanese and Chinese cloisonne on the east coast.
