This wonderful older detailed carving of a bear with a fish in his mouth is from the Ainu people of Japan. The fish appears to be a pacific salmon and is carved from a contrasting wood which heightens the realistic feel of the sculpture. This Shui childs hat is very heavily and intricately embroidered using wrapped cotton thread. The base background blue and black fabric has a subtle pattern which takes extra care and attention while weaving on the loom. a series of silver ornamental "bubbles" further decorates the front lower border of the hat. This pair of bookends was carved by the Igorots on the northern part of the Island of Luzon in the Philippines sometime in the 1950's. Each bookend depicts a tribesman cautiously peering over his shield at the tribesman on the other side. From the position and shape of the right arm and hands, it is likely that each native was originally holding a spear. A very dense black wood was used to create these sculptures

This Chinese pipe is from the Miao Ethnic Minority group in the vicinity of Rong Jiang. My Miao friends insist that this pipe would have been used for smoking tobacco and not opium. Made from silver alloy, the stem design has the two dragons chasing the center pearl. The pipe is in very good condition and is 19" long and it comes with its own custom made stand.
