This Miao silver drinking horn would have used for special occasions i.e. prospective in-laws visiting etc. The horn is small 6.5 inches from tip to far rim. The reposse design of dragon and fish is mirrored on each side of the horn.

In addition to prizing quality stone for use as inkstones, the Chinese also appreciated carved stones as art objects. Large stones would be carved in the form of ink stones, not to be used, but to be collected. Such stone carvings were often commissioned and given as gifts. This is one such stone. This Shui childs hat is very heavily and intricately embroidered using wrapped cotton thread. The base background blue and black fabric has a subtle pattern which takes extra care and attention while weaving on the loom. a series of silver ornamental "bubbles" further decorates the front lower border of the hat. Over 60 years old and in very good condition it will make a wonderful addition to any collection

This Chinese pipe is from the Miao Ethnic Minority group in the vicinity of Rong Jiang. My Miao friends insist that this pipe would have been used for smoking tobacco and not opium. Made from silver alloy, the stem design has the two dragons chasing the center pearl.

The pipe is in very good condition and is 19" long and it comes with its own custom made stand.

This old traditional Yi minority child's dress is made from hand-loomed fabric with batik detailing and button closure. It has clearly been worn a few times but is still in very good condition. sleeve to sleeve, piece measures approx 36" and is about 18" long. approx 65 years old

This is a traditional old style Chinese doodoo which is worn buttoned to the front of a womans shirt. It is made of black cotton fabric and embroidered with silk thread using a satin stitch. The motif is typical Miao...birds and flowers. It is in good condition appears slightly faded. This piece measures approx 11" X 11" and would look very nice framed. Age approx 65 yrs old

There are many hopes expressed in this baby carrier: red cotton background fabric for the joy of having the baby, the yellow golden embroidered thread patterned in sun symbols and swirling lines throughout the carrier are the wind blowing the bees and pollen around the fields for a sucessfull harvest. Carrier is divided by a strip of very fine needlepoint for added strength. This Miao Baby carrier is from the Bai Ling region of China. As is typical of this region, the straps are embroidered. This attractive piece was probably only used for a few festivals before being stored away for the next generations use. In excellant condition, it measures 38" long.

This pair of Chinese toddlers boots were hand made by the Ethnic minority Miao grandmother. They were worn and are somewhat soiled but the are a fine example of needle arts craftsmanship. The upper boot is made with a series of small fabric pieces folded along a curve and then sewn together into a consistent pattern similar to the window pane quilt pattern.
