This antique Japanese cloisonne plate is extensively decorated with border pattern and 8 panels of flowers and butterflies. The center medallion depicts a bird in flight with a brown goldstone background. The back is heavily enameled with dark green in a sculptural wave pattern. All this is packed into the surface of the plate which is a mere 6 inches across.

The top of this black lacquer Japanese box is heavily carved with leaves and foliage. The carved oval cinnabar panel in the center depicts a long and stable marriage scene. The standing wife has just served her sitting husband tea in the garden, outside the house surrounded by mountains. The four sides of the box are carved with continuous textile design.

The box is 5.5 inches x 4.75 inches and 2+ inches high.

The goldstone flecks are abundant but unfortunately they do not show in the photos. The vase is 8+ inches tall and in very good condition.

Lovely gold rimmed Meiji Period Japanese cloisonne charger with intricate floral pattern. The original import label is still attached to the back of the piece. The label indicates that the piece was imported to the US by the A A VanTine of New York, who was one of the first importers of Japanese and Chinese cloisonne on the east coast.

This wonderful Edo period antique Japanese tobacco box is made of wood and covered with lacquer which is now seriously aged. In the middle of the lid is small sculptured detail. The box has the original cord and horn tip toggle, and still contains tobacco. Circa 1860's this box is 4.5" x 2.5" x 3" high. It is truly a piece of old ethnographic folk art from Japan's Edo period.

This pair of Japanese handmade long square cut nails are 5" long and appear to have never been used. The nail heads are solid and shaped into a hemisphere. The silver colored decorative metal escutcheons have scalloped edges and markings to represent a flower. The escutcheons are just under 1" in diameter and have a squared center hole which exactly fits the nail shank.
