| Both of the sides and the soles of these lotus shoes are covered with an elaborate satin stitched floral motif. The background fabric is black cotton, so it is assumed that they were made by a woman with excellent needlework skills and limited finances. Their use must have been very special to her. Clearly, these shoes had some limited use and show some dirt, and the cream colored fabric of the soles show some pink dye runs from the embroidery threads. | ||||||
