This carved wooden dragon head and RuYi symbol is from an old Buddhist temple monastery in Inner Mongolia, a region that is now part of China. This piece was probably used to stablize joint between a support post and a rafter beam. Hand carved from teak wood, both sides have the same dragon head at one end and the ruyi form at other end which images as the dragons tail. The carving is 32 inches long, 3 inches thick and is 9 inches high. The piece is now permanently mounted on a stand so the total height of the piece is 18 inches. |
