The central Chinese character is "shou", longevity. Also sewn into this stunning late Qing embroidery are bats and clouds (both for happiness) and mushrooms, also symbolizing longevity. The diameter of the embroidery is 13.5" and the beautiful frame is 28" square.

Both of these Qing embroideries show children, one with a dragon, symbolic of the male, yang, fertility and the emperor, and the bat, symbol of happiness and good luck. The other shows a child with a butterfly, symbol of the female. The lower areas show water with waves. These are framed with hangers, 10.5" by 16.25". The embroideries are 10" long and 4.75" at the widest.

This complete baby carrier was made by the Miao people in China, possibly in Hunan or Guizhou province. The embroidery of silken thread on silk cloth is extraordinary. Symbols include the peony and butterfly. There is also some geometric designs and the central piece is bordered on three sides with flowers. The baby carrier is complete with the wrapping straps, which are of black-dyed cotton or hemp. The embroidered area is 19" by 22". Excellent condition.

This cap is made by the Miao people from Guizhou, China (known as Hmong outside China). Worn by small children, it is embroidered with chain stitch. The cap is cotton, with silk thread, and a hemp cloth lining. Good condition.
