GOLD AESTHETIC MOVEMENT FRAME WITH FANS
This very rare Japanese-influenced frame has a border of moulded fans with round fans for corner finials. There is a very narrow outermost beaded frame. The innermost lemon gold frame is about 1 inch wide and is in excellent original condition. The outer edge measures inches 17 inches x 15 inches. The brass mirror has a very decorative Aesthetic or Eastlake top panel design of stylized flowers, buds and leaves entwined on a trellis. It is unmarked, but is similar to some Bradley & Hubbard mirror sconces or could possibly be by a Philadelphia maker.. The beveled mirror is original, with some age discoloration and could be resilvered but otherwise, the mirror sconce is in very good condition. The mirror is 15 1/2" long and 7" wide.
Stunning American Aesthetic Gesso Frame, c.1880, in superb condition with silver triangular corner finials and gold borders with grape and vine motifs. The moulded silver and gold gesso is mostly original, for minor invisible restorations. The burgundy velvet liner was tastefully replaced, as was the beveled mirror. This slightly flattened oval shaped Japanese inspired jug is decorated with cranes on a stippled background. The jug shape is known as YEDDO. The form is white clay but the stippled portion is bright blue with white applied slip cranes and clouds.
