This Aesthetic Movement design of the 1890s has a medium but bright blue transfer on white. Wedgwood first introduced the MARIGOLD design in 1878. Here is a beautifully hand painted polychrome Aesthetic transferware desing in the HONG KONG pattern. It is an Oriental influenced design with tropical plants and flying birds, very much in the Chinoiserie tradition. The bowl is in excellent condition. It is approx. 11” long, 7 incheswide and approx. 2 inches deep. The condition is excellent with no chips, cracks or hairlines.

The chocolate brown transfer on white clay is quite striking. There are at least six tiles in the Fables series. It is harder to find the plate versions than the actual tiles. Here is a beautiful and rare set of the Greek Musicians series. One of the series appears on P.97 of Maureen Batkin’s book, Wedgwood Ceramics 1846-1959. These images were initially designed as tiles, and later adapted to plate designs, with the addition of a Classical leaf border. The plates are polychrome with brilliant colors.
