| AESTHETIC MOULDED GESSO FRAME WITH SQUARE CORNER FINIALS AND LOW RELIEF MOULDED FERN LIKE LEAVES This is a stunning and unusual American moulded gesso frame from the 1880s. Probably just preceding the Adirondack period, as I think the leaves and seed pods are a native American plant. The frame is in excellent condition. The finish is an old gold color, which was probably replaced in its lifetime. The beveled mirror is original and is not a replacement. The raised square corner finials integrates the leafy design. The whole effect is quite sculptural. This was actually the first of my antique frames, and I thought it was an Art Deco piece because of the strong architectural feel about it. This is one of the qualities that makes it fit so well in a modern home. The square frame is quite large and measures 20.5” x 20.5”. The inner opening is 13.5” x 13.5”. The width of the framing is 3.5”. The mirror is original. | ||
