| MINTON Naturalist Plate, Pierre Mallet Duckling and Two Frogs, 1878. Minton produced a series depicting ducklings at play in the yard or foraging for food. This soup plate or bowl has a black transfer on a celadon green clay background. The plate is 9.75” in diameter and is in excellent condition. . The designs are very realistic, and yet, they drawings also convey the personality of the birds, with their energy and ingenuity in scavenging for food. The designer is Pierre Mallet, who also did similar bird designs for Wedgwood and Brownfield. See other listings which show more ducklings, as well as chickens. Pierre Mallet portrays the ducklings as being a little more vicious than the chickens. On this plate the duckling has just captured his next meal, with a second frog visibly distressed by this sight. The impressed marks include MINTON as well as a small printed globe, a small triangle with a circle in it(indicating 1878 as date of manufacture)., possibly a BB, but all difficult to read. Light glaze crazing appears on the back side. Condition is very good, with no chips, cracks etc. | ||
