Repousse gold amulet of Tauret, depicted as a pregnant female hippopotamus with ferocious expression, wearing a wig, the hind legs of a lion and the tail of a crocodile. New Kingdom, 18th-20th Dynasty, 1550-1070 B.C. 5/8 inches high. Intact with intact suspension loop. From an old German collection, collected in the 1950s. Tauret's most common role was as a protectoress of pregnant women.

Normally depicted as a pregnant female hippopotamus, wearing a tripartite wig, with human breasts, the hind legs of a lion and the tail of a crocodile. Late Period, 600-332 B.C. 7/8 inch high. Intact with intact suspension loop. Ex. Private NYC collection, acquired more than 30 years ago. Tauret's most common role was as a protectoress of pregnant women. Hematite is a silvery, shiny hard opaque stone that almost looks like metal.

An erect detailed bronze cobra figure in a striking position. Probably from a crown. Late Period, 600-332 B.C. 1 1/4 inches high. Intact. Mounted. From an old New Jersey collection. The uraeus appears as a symbol worn on the crown or headdress of royalty or a deity. It is used as a protective symbol, the Egyptians believed that the cobra would spit fire at any approaching enemies.
