Finely detailed depiction of the god of the sun. With prominent facial details, full head of curly hair, pleated garment on shoulders and radiating spiked crown. 2nd/3rd Century. 1 1/2 inches in diameter. Intact. Ex. NYC collection. Helios was imagined as a handsome god crowned with the shining aureole of the sun. He drove the chariot of the sun across the sky each day to earth-circling Oceanus and through the world-ocean returned to the East at night.
