Possibly made from a large piece of light brown flint, a colour characteristic of a type of Egyptian flint called chert. Flaked on one side, the underside being completely smooth. Found near Thebes, Pre-Dynastic Period, Ca. 4500-3500 B.C. 4 1/4 inches long. Intact. Formerly in the collection of Leighton Wilkie (1900-1993).

A`fine rectangular limestone double-sided seal with a scarab (kepher) between two feathers on one side and a scarab along with an elaborate inscription on the reverse. New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty, 1550-1292 B.C. 1 inch X 1 1/2 inches. Intact with traces of glaze. Pierced for suspension. The Egyptian hieroglyphic " Kepher " means " to succeed to be ", that is to say, to make oneself, to give oneself a given form, to rebuild oneself. The feather represents the symbol of truth.
