The human-headed falcon wearing a tri-partite wig with long lappets and the feet set apart on an integral rectangular base. Ptolemaic Period, 300-32 B.C. 5 1/2 inches high. Some wear with traces of gesso and polychrome. From the New York Estate of Stuart Bart. The Ba was portrayed as a human-headed bird, whose duty was to reunite the soul with the body. The Ba-bird was often shown hovering over the deceased's mummy or leaving or entering the tomb at will.

Egyptian wood votive ear. New Kingdom, 1500-1075 B.C. Remains of gesso. Swiss collection of Dr.Urich Mueller, Ex. Brooklyn, NY collection. Model ears were dedicated to various gods and godesses, including Hathor, Ptah and Thoth. Hathor being the most common. Model ears likely represented the ear of the deity and encouraged the god to heed people's appeals.

Ptolemaic Period, 304-30 B.C. 14 1/4 inches high. Base is 8 1/2 inches long. From the NY estate of Stephen Van Cline. Extensive remains of original polychrome with looses as shown. A couchant wood figure of an alert Anubis, depicted as a jackal. With pointed ears, long snout and long descending tail. Late Period-Ptolemaic Period, 700-30 B.C. 7 1/2 inches long. Tail descends 4 1/4 inches from rear. One ear restored. All original pigment. From an old California collection. Sometimes known as Anpu and Inepu, Anubis is most frequently associated with the jackal, an animal that is representative of tombs.
