A fine openwork Nut (pronounced Noot) amulet depicted as sow with 4 piglets and a hieroglyphic inscription on base. 3/4 inch. Late Period, 600-300 B.C. Suspension loop gone. Otherwise, intact. From an old German private collection, collected in the early 1950's. Nut was considered to be the mother of the sun and the moon. The piglets represented the stars, which she swallowed each morning before dawn.
