A tall turquoise ancient Egyptian faience shabti, for a man called Ankh-em-maat, who was a sa-mery-ef ("his beloved son") priest of the god Herishef at Herakleopolis, depicted mummiform, with smiling expression, with hands holding hoes, wearing a striated tripartite wig and braided beard and with 9 lines of hieroglyphic inscription. 30th Dynasty, 405-335 B.C. 7 3/8 inches high. Small chip on beard and some surface losses. Otherwise, intact. Mounted. From an old Virginia collection, acquired in 1981.
