AN ANCIENT EGYPTIAN FAIENCE BES

A light turquoise faience figure of the dwarf god, Bes. Depicted with defined facial details, long arms and short squatting legs, his long tail trailing behind him. In a cheerful and festive pose, he is playing a tambourine. Ptolemaic Period, 300-32 B.C. 3 inches high. Intact as shown. Mounted. From an old New Jersey private collection. A household god, Bes is considered the god of music and dancing.
