| Finely decorated, colorful cartonnage fragment. The upper part with the remains of a row of rosettes, a row of lotus flowers, a gilt band of hieroglyphic text, an elaborate winged scarab below. Underneath are two small panels of gilt hieroglyphic text, On the right is a baboon-headed man with a gilt disc crown, wearing an elaborate gilt garment, his left hand raised in adoration, his right hand grasping a plume. On the left is a male deity, his right hand raised in adoration, left hand grasping a plume, also wearing an elaborate gilt garment. Between the two figures, an ibis is wearing a gilt horned disc crown, sitting on a gilt platform with a gilt plume to the right. Late Ptolemaic Period, 100 B.C. - 32 B.C Framed and mounted. Cartonnage measures 14 inches wide X 16 inches high. Frame measures 21 inches X 17 inches. Extensive remains of original color and gilding. Ex. Rhode Island collection. | ||
