VIKING HORSE SHOE. 4” height. 10th century and showing slightly more refined form. Thicker with broader calkins but retaining the “pie crust” edge which distinguishes the earliest horse shoes from all others that followed. With these earliest shoes, the nails protrude substantially and the the horse or pony actually walked on the nail heads and calkins. Sound stable excavated condition

Simple pleasant example made from sheet bronze with the design hand incised both sides. Height 1 1/4". Note that Byzantine coins were similarly made by cutting out a rough blank, then striking it with a die on one side producing the unique "cup coin".

Fashion copied from the Chinese with distinct Tibetan artistry and design. 2 1/4" height, comprising identical pewter vessels hand engraved with foliage and flowers. The necks and lids with applied wire work surrounding genuine turquoise and jade mounts, all complete. Each lid with white metal spoon within the vessel. Good rich dark patina. Only Tibetan example we have ever seen.
