The Quezal Art Glass Company was founded in the late 19th century by Martin Bach, Sr. In 1904, his son, Martin Bach, Jr. became President and what followed was the production of some of the loveliest art glass shades ever made, rivaling only Tiffany and Steuben. Following the Louis C. Tiffany Favrile technique, this Quezal shade is made from very fragile, light green and gold opalescent art glass. In fact, other than the form of the shade, and the style of the pulled feathers, many would believe this was made by Tiffany shade. The shade is 5" high and has a standard 2 1'4 fitter. It is a mint green with white pulled feathers over gold iridescent opalescent glass, Its base has a slight ripple at its edge. The interior also is gold iridescence glass. Most Art Glass shades of this period were cased glass and used calcite, which gave the shade, while lovely, a more substantial look. This shade is almost ethereal is look and touch. It is engraved "Quezal" on the inner portion of the fitter rim. It is in excellent condition. One photograph does show the shade mounted on a lamp. The lamp is for sale, but please inquire about its price |
