Taisho period (1910-1925) Japanese
woodblock print by Ito Sozan (1884-?) titled Hana (Flower), from the series
Setsugetsuka no uchi (Snow, Moon and Flower). This design is illustrated at
plate 25 of The Female Image: 20th Century Prints of Japanese Beauties,
(2000). It was published by the Watanabe Color Print Co. Although it (and the
image illustrated in the The Female Image) does not have a publisher's seal, the illustrations of the other two designs,
Snow and Moon both have them.
This print is in very good condition, with fresh colors. The image measures 14 ¾ by 6 ¼ inches, plus full margins.

Wonderful Paul Jacoulet woodblock, titled Le
Betel, "Yap" (The Betel Nut Boy, Yap), 207/350, published March 27,
1940. It is pencil signed and bears the Peach seal. This design is illustrated
at plate 64 of Miles, Richard, The Prints of Paul Jacoulet, 1982. The
image measures approximately 15 ½ by 11 ¾ inches, plus full margins.
What appears to be a nick in the bottom margin on the right was actually done intentionally at the time of printing to assist in the
alignment of the wood blocks, and is indicative of untrimmed margins.
This print is in excellent condition and the colors are very fresh and intense, with a very nice mica background. This print came
from a collection that had never been matted or framed!

It is pencil signed and bears the Fan seal. This design is illustrated at plate

measures approximately 15 ½ by 11 ¾ inches, plus full margins. What appears to be a nick in the bottom margin on the right
was actually done intentionally at the time of printing to assist in the alignment of the wood blocks, and is indicative of

This print is in excellent condition, aside from two light printer's creases in background and some light toning on the reverse
(probably from the original folder), and the colors are very fresh and intense. Metallics are used to highlight the calligraphy in

This print is in excellent condition, aside from some light toning on the reverse (probably from the original folder), and the colors
are very fresh and intense. According to Miles, the screen in the background is printed with a mixture of mother-of-pearl and
silver mica, ground silver powder was used to delineate the design of the sash and the calligraphy, and a fine rough gauffrage
indicates the texture of the wedding chest.
