Wonderful woodblock print by Paul Jacoulet (1902-1960), titled Les Jades. "Chinoise", February 2, 1940. It is pencil signed, numbered 99/350 on the reverse, and bears the Boat seal on the front. This design is illustrated at plate 63 of The Prints of Paul Jacoulet, by Richard Miles, 1982.
This print is in very good condition, with wonderfully fresh colors and no problems to note. It is printed on heavy, deluxe paper. The image measures approximately 15 ½ by 11 ¾ inches, plus full margins. What appears to be a nick in the bottom margin on the right was actually done intentionally at the time of printing to assist in the alignment of the wood blocks, and is indicative of untrimmed margins.

Original, early 20th century Japanese woodblock print by Ohara Koson (1877-1945) (also known as Shoson and Hoson), depicting two birds in tall grass. The design is not
illustrated in the new Koson reference book, Cranes, Crows and Camelias: The
Natural World of Ohara Koson. According to the introductory remarks to the appendix, the authors had difficulty locating images of many of the small,
post-card sized prints, such as this one.
The print was recently acquired in Japan and is from the same source as the Koson prints and paintings exhibited at the Hiraki Ukiyo-e Museum in 1998 and in the catalogue, titled (in English) Ohara Koson: Artist of Kacho-ga, Prints of Birds and Flowers. It has never been framed, and the colors are excellent. However, there is some discoloration in the
margins. The paper stock is heavier than generally found on Koson prints, although this is most likely attributable to the post-card sized format. The dimensions are approximately 5 ½ by 3 ½ inches, plus margins.
Reduced shipping charge on this item, due to size.
