Original Japanese woodblock print by Kawase Hasui (1883-1957) titled "Deer Strolling along Kasuga Shrine, Nara", from the series "Shinto and its Architecture", 1936. This design was published by the Watanabe Color Print Co. and is illustrated at plate Hb-s7 of “Kawase Hasui: The Complete Woodblock Prints”, by Kendall H. Brown. It is from the Estate of Robert O. Muller, the internationally renowned collector and dealer of 20th century Japanese woodblock prints. The image measures approximately 6 7/8 x 4 1/2 inches, plus margins. The colors are wonderfully fresh, and there are no condition issues to note, aside from thinning to the top reverse margins, and a paper flaw in the sky. Please visit our website, www.floatingworld.com, for additional works by Hasui (both in this size format and traditional oban format). |
