Ohara Koson Woodblock - Japanese Crane
Original, early 20th century Japanese woodblock print by Ohara Koson (1877-1945) (also known as Shoson and Hoson), titled Japanese Crane Fishing in Shallow Water. The design is illustrated at plate K4.8 in the new Koson reference book, Cranes, Crows and Camellias: The Natural World of Ohara Koson, as well as at plate 114 in the Hiraki Museum catalogue referred to in the next paragraph.

The print was recently acquired in Japan and is from the same source as the Koson prints and paintings exhibited at the Hiraki Ukiyo-e Museum in 1998 and in the catalogue, titled (in English) Ohara Koson: Artist of Kacho-ga, Prints of Birds and Flowers. It has never been framed, and the colors are excellent. However, there is some discoloration in the margins. The paper stock is heavier than generally found on Koson prints, although this is most likely attributable to the post-card sized format. The dimensions are approximately 5 ½ by 3 ½ inches, plus margins.

Reduced shipping charge on this item, due to size.
