Japanese woodblock print by Elizabeth Keith (1887-1956), titled Sport in Peking, 1922. The image measures 14 5/8 x 9 ˝ inches, plus margins. Very good condition, except for faint paper residue from a prior mount on top reverse margin. The design is illustrated at plate 7 in “Elizabeth Keith: The Printed Works”, by Richard Miles. According to Miles, Keith remarked, " the boy wears popular fancy dress and is playing with a pet bird, a pastime of both old and young in China." |
