First State Yoshitoshi Woodblock - 36 Ghosts
Original, first state Japanese woodblock print by Taiso Yoshitoshi (1839-1892), 1889, titled " Onikawa Observing the Great Carp in the Pool", from the Thirty-six Ghosts Series. This is the only design in the series in which the first state has a two color cartouche; however, the first state designs have crossing wave lines beneath where the two rocks meet (in later impressions, the lines do not cross).

The image measures approximately 13 1/8 x 9 inches, plus margins. It is in very good condition, with oxidized pigments. There is a typical album backing.
