Paul Jacoulet woodblock. It is titled Joaquina et sa Mere au Sermon du Pere Pons. Rota: Marianes
(Joaquina and her Mother at the Sermon by Father Pons. Rota, Marianas), published December 25, 1947. It is pencil signed and bears
the Owl seal on the front and an elaborate PJ seal on the reverse. This design is illustrated at plate 89 of Miles, Richard, The Prints of Paul
Jacoulet, 1982. The image measures approximately 15 ½ by 11 ¾ inches, plus full margins. What appears to be a nick in the bottom margin
on the right was actually done intentionally at the time of printing to assist in the alignment of the wood blocks, and is indicative of untrimmed
margins.
This print is in excellent condition, and the colors are very fresh and intense. It is printed on heavy, deluxe paper. Metallic pigments are used on Joaquina's sleeves and shawl. This print came from a collection that had never been matted or framed! |
