Paul Jacoulet woodblock. It is titled Le Marie. Seoul, Coree (The Bridegroom, Seoul, Korea), published
November, 1950. It is pencil signed and bears the Owl seal on the front and an elaborate PJ seal on the reverse. This design is illustrated at
plate 110 of Miles, Richard, The Prints of Paul Jacoulet, 1982. The image measures approximately 15 ½ by 11 ¾ inches, plus full margins.
What appears to be a nick in the bottom margin on the right was actually done intentionally at the time of printing to assist in the alignment of
the wood blocks, and is indicative of untrimmed margins.
This print is in excellent condition, aside from some faint soiling on the lower right corner of the margins, and the colors are very fresh and intense. Silver leaf and metallics are used on the screen and marriage robe and bronze metallics on the hat and screen. This print came from a collection that had never been matted or framed! |
