An exquisite Satsuma bowl of shallow, circular form. A lively
arrangement of fan-shaped cartouches decorate the exterior with
sumptuous textile patterns and lush floral scenes in gosu, iron red
enamel and gilt. Inside, a generous display of gilt work details a
delicate, brocaded necklace in rich jewel tones. In the central

This is an elegant bronze usubata flower vase with characteristic Edo
Period form and red-splashed patination. Its wide, flaring rim, widely favored
by ikebana masters of the period, provides a perfect foil for flower
arrangement, its undecorated surface offers no competition with the ikebana master's art.
The base of this fine flower vase is incised with the name of the
bronze metallurgist of the time, Nagasaki-born Murata Seimin
(1761-1837).

This is a small tobacco pouch of rectangular form with ivory ojime
formed as a tortoise shell, the attached ivory netsuke carved as a
clam shell. On its flap, a shakudo and gold-inlaid clasp is modeled
as two superimposed fish , their

A rare mirror-form lacquer suzuribako with silver mounts, its cover
simulating pine bark and decorated with a gold lacquer cicada and beetle.
On its interior, a butterfly hovers over a wisteria branch executed in
gold lacquer and mother-of-pearl on a roiro and maki-e ground. This
exquisitely lacquered suzuribako is formerly part of the William

This is a massive, rectangular Imari tray with foliate rim executed in
various shades of the traditional Imari palette. Elaborate cartouches
along the rim show scenes of lush vegetation in brilliant iron red and
gilt, all on a blue diamond-patterned ground. Iron red brocading

This is a splendid Hirado porcelain vase of bottle-form executed in
soft, blue-enameled glazing on a lustrous white ground. A mountainous
village with huts and thatched roofs is nestled among tall pine trees,
a flock of birds above mountain peaks in flight over sail boats on the placid
lake below. This lovely vase is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks
or restoration.

This is a luxurious five-case, gold-lacquered inro depicting a grove of foliage and flowers in gold and silver takamaki-e on a gold kinji ground.
The foliage is naturalistically rendered with kirikane details, the interiors executed in rich amber-colored nashiji. A coral ojime keeps the woven silk string in place. This inro is in very good condition with the raised signature of Kogyoku Sai on the base.
