Here is an exquisite Satsuma censer with domed, silver reticulated lid. Three wonderfully detailed cartouches float upon a rich Mohammedan-blue ground surrounded by floating, lacy gilt phoenix. On one panel an artist is shown in his studio with his attendant and implements painting a large phoenix upon a paneled screen, bijin observing. This unique Imari porcelain plate is modeled in the form of a shell, its scalloped body accentuated by alternating textile-patterned panels along the border. On a striking white ground, a gilt-detailed phoenix perches upon a cobalt, iron red and gilt architectural structure. This fine Imari plate is in excellent condition with no problems and no restoration.

An excellent iron jizai, a completely articulated fresh-water prawn with long arms (ebi tenaga), signed Myochin on its nether side. (For a similar jizai, see “Jizai Okimono, Articulated Iron Figures of Animals” by Harada Kazutoshi, pg. 71.) Includes wooden owner’s box. This naturalistically rendered prawn is in fine condition with only minor signs of wear to age. (Please see images.) Otherwise, this piece has no loss, damage or restoration.
