This is a tall bamboo basket for ikebana arrangement, its full body woven with tight bamboo rope on a reed pedestal base. The combination of thick and twisted strands of bamboo rope with a dramatic gnarled root wood handle creates a wondrous tactile effect. Insect stitching and twining details can be found along the base. This basket is in excellent condition. Height: 24" Meiji Period, Japan

A rare-form bamboo ikebana basket on a round pedestal base, its forked handle securely attached to the body, supportive wraps and insect stitching along its sides. The basket is composed of superb detailing - mat plaiting, twilling, interlocking v-knots and metallic fittings. A bold wagumi-style flower-form basket made of smoked bamboo with arrow tail inserts to create a herringbone weave. Double-walled interior basket exhibits a twined plaiting outside and twill plaiting inside. This ikebana basket is expertly crafted, in excellent condition and signed by the bamboo artist Yoshi Mine. Includes the original copper-lined otoshi. Height: 6.5”, width: 13.5” Taisho Period, Japan
