A wonderful automatized ivory okimono of the legend of ill-fated Anchin, a Buddhist monk, who unluckily falls victim to Kiyohime’s obsessive passion. The monk’s unwillingness to succumb to her advances turned Kiyohime into a vengeful dragon trapping Anchin under a temple bell. Atop the bell, demon-like Kiyohime torments Anchin by striking the bell with a mallet. Anchin’s revolving face in this sculpture depicts five faces of anguish. This ivory okimono is rendered with extensive ink detailing ...click for details

(The tama (tide-controlling jewel associated with the Dragon King of the Sea) complete Japan's beloved theme of endurance and strength-represented by the chidori's perilous migration.) This okimono is in good condition with only some wear consistent w ...click for details

A naturalistically carved and incised wood okimono of two Akita puppies at play, their fur, ears and features beautifully delineated.
The communication between the two is evidenced by their position, the one atop causing surprise in the wide eyes and open mouth of his playmate - the expressions and carving technique defining the charm of
the sculpture. The bottom of the piece is carved with great realism, in the same style as
the puppies, the wood graining and natural, warm wood tones ...click for details

This is a fully carved boxwood okimono of a hawk on its own stand, its
head turned elegantly upward, the wings resting on each side. Finely
carved details naturalistically render the bird's plumage, razor sharp
claws and each feather along the neck. The expressive eyes are inlaid
with aogai. (Hawks form part of Japan's rich artistic history, often
represented in scenes of nature and in imagery connected to legends of
the samurai. During the Edo Period, the hawk became an emb ...click for details
