A tall, elegant silver coffee pot with hinged lid, the finial sculpted with bamboo leaves and culm. The bamboo motif continues along the stippled body with stalks of bamboo modeled in low relief, dramatic leaves sprouting from its stem. This exquisite silver coffee pot is in excellent condition with no dents, damage or restoration. Both sterling and Jungin marks engraved on base. Height: 10.25” Taisho Period, Japan

This is a charming boxwood netsuke of two seated rabbits facing opposite directions, one with its paw on a persimmon branch.Their bodies are delicately modeled, the fine, incised work simulating the creatures' furry coats. Their eyes are inlaid with mother-of-pearl and the bottom of the piece is brilliantly carved to indicate their tails and the soles of their feet in the most naturalistic manner. A large Imari porcelain charger in the Namban-style with Dutch figures dressed in characteristic garb, their faces descriptive of the Japanese conception of Gaijin. Thin strands of bamboo rise from the kiku-woven base, bending miraculously at the shoulders and twining along the collar and throughout the full body. A superb hanging bamboo ikebana basket of lobed, oval form carefully woven in herringbone design with vertical inserts, its rim intricately braided. A braided silk cord is attached to the body with metal clasps formed as plum blossoms. This ikebana basket is in very good condition with only few signs of wear commensurate with age. An overlapping bi-form tebako (cosmetic box) designed in hiramaki-e and togadashi. Autumnal imagery with mountains, streams, maple, pine and luxurious foliage adorns the exterior and sides, dense nashiji the interior and underside. Silver mounts and tomobako. Provenance: Signed on tomobako lid: "Gift by Empress at Hayama Goyotei (summer house), Taisho 6, March 3, 1918." This gold maki-e tebako is in good condition.
