This is a charming soft-metal kogo formed as three clam shells. The large silver clam shell and two smaller clam shells of the group are fully modeled in gilt and shakudo,their exteriors naturalistically chiseled with wave-like grooves. The brilliant silver interiors, similarly modeled. Within the cover, incised square-mesh and pine mons can be found. This beautiful gem of a kogo shows a few signs of wear consistent with age. Stylized, finely incised waves with gold detailing wind in and out, the movement of each designed to catch shimmering light. A pair of fine glass and silver decanters of conical form with pierced silver stylized bamboo stalks and leaves embracing its surface. The silver stoppers capture the art deco-inspired conical shape of the vessels. The bases and stoppers are marked "Sterling 950." ( Japanese silver is 950 in silver content, higher than the British sterling.) These decanters are in excellent condition with no dents or damage. Height (both): 12" Late Taisho/Showa Period, Japan

Enclosed in this finely polished wood case is a set of twelve fruit knives with blunt blades and multi-metal handles. The shaped handles are decorated with butterflies and frogs in silver, gilt and copper on a woven sentoku ground . The complete set of knives is inscribed with the American Cutlery Company logo, along with the date 1865. Each handle is marked in Japanese calligraphy with an inscribed sentoku plaque.
