Okimono of Rabbits with Glass Ball
Crafted in silver, this lovely okimono shows three standing rabbits rendered with fine incised work and holding a glass ball "moon."(Part of the zodiac, rabbits in Japanese art often relate to the charming folk tale of the rabbit offering to sacrifice itself as lunch for an old man resting in a forest. The old man, a disguised god, refuses, of course, and for eternity the noble, selfless rabbit is seen against the moon in every kind of Japanese art.) This okimono is in excellent condition with no dents or restoration. Height: 6.75" Meiji Period, Japan
