This majestic, cylindrical-shaped vase with high shoulder and recessed neck provides a lustrous ground for the dramatic imagery covering its surface. A gnarled plum blossom tree with serpentine branches extends across the vase's unique ground - a fine rosy blush with celadon undertones dotted overall with miniscule indentations. Technically as well as aesthetically, this rare vase from the studio of the master court artist, Makuzu Kozan, sets the standard for "pieces created well before their time." Makuzu Kozan" underglaze blue signature cartouche on the base. This vase is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or restoration. Height: 10" Late Meiji Period. Japan
