| A globular cloisonne vase with shakudo mounts, a lone sparrow flying over tall grasses on a soft gray-to-green graduated ground. Executed with delicate musen and fine-wiring techniques, the effect of the bird-in-flight against a vast sky at dusk is accentuated by peach-tinted clouds overhead. Great Meiji cloisonné is more than evident in this vase – in the master’s choice of shape, full and rounded and in its exquisite subject. Kawade Shibataro double-gourd signature mark on the base. Height, 9.5". Meiji Period. Japan. This vase is in good condition, with slight pitting. Please see detail image of the bird, image 4. | |||||||||
