| This is a small gold-lacquered box formed as a kabuto. The ingeniously- modeled box perfectly simulates a Japanese helmet with carved dragon-head maedate, sentoku horns and flared fukigayeshi. The fukigayeshi are decorated with two large gilt kiku mon in hiramaki-e on a ground of gold, silver and red lacquered kiku. The interiors are done in roiro with a fine sprinkling of gold. This exquisite box is in very good condition and includes its tomobako. Meiji Period, Japan | |||||||||
