| Coucher de Soleil a Menado. Celebes (Sunset in Menado. Celebes) "Coucher de Soleil" is a beautifully rendered coastal scene at sunset with a woman leaning against a wooden fence in full, patterned clothes and a semi-nude man seated at her side. Jacoulet, in this print, portrayed the woman with a tall straw hat and a strong, free-spirited attitude. The semi-nude man presents his bare back to the viewer. According to Mr. Richard Miles, this woodblock print by Paul Jacoulet was "a great success and sold steadily", representing Jacoulet's "tongue-in-cheek" commentary on Manet's controversial "Dejeuner sur l'Herbe"... See: "The Prints of Paul Jacoulet", Richard Miles, #53, page 100).This woodblock print is in excellent condition, mounted acid-free in a wood frame overlaid with gold leaf.
