| A single-case carved wood inro with two cartouches depicting fierce writhing dragons in relief, their muscular bodies finely incised in great detail and inlaid with aogai, coral and tortoise shell on a T-fret ground. Top and bottom panels are carved with auspicious clouds, its adjustable silk string with ojime worked through the bottom. A gold maki-e scene of sakura, kiku, plum and bamboo sprays on a glossy roiro ground decorate the interior. This inro is in excellent condition with Hosho carved signature plaque on the lower left-hand corner. 19th Century, Japan | ||||||||
