| A fine Satsuma tea caddy of cylindrical form on pedestal base. Its lid features gilt Tokugawa mon and includes the rare to find inner lid. Along the neck and shoulders, fan-shaped cartouches are detailed in gosu blue and gilt with multiple stylized patterns, its open-fan motif continuing across the body with large fan cartouches on a scrolling gosu blue ground. Beautiful scenes of abundant flowers and streams in gilt, iron red and gosu are displayed on each fan cartouche. The gilt and iron red signature on base, "Satsuma yaki dai Nihon Gijutsu", appears along with the Satsuma mon in gosu blue. This wonderful tea caddy is in very good condition. Height: 5 ¾" Late Edo Period (19th Century), Japan | |||||||||
