| Of baluster form, this painterly studio porcelain vase is rendered with a lovely fledgling executed in fine grey-enameled detail, its wings spread and legs positioned as if preparing for flight. Having landed in a charming melon patch, bold, stylized red berries and underglaze blue leaves envelop the vase, creating the kind of "painting-on-porcelain" achieved in the late 19th century by this master ceramist. This vase by Makuzu Kozan is in excellent condition, with no damage or restoration. The underglaze blue signature of the artist is on the base. Includes owner's box. Height: 10" Meiji Period, Japan | |||||||||
