Wood Kiseruzutsu
This is a fine kiseruzutsu set depicting one of Japan's beloved themes-the saru mawashi (monkey trainer) and his charge. The wood case is carved in relief with a gold lacquer, pensive monkey, the stag antler pipe case with the trainer, leash-in-hand, balanced on weathered rockwork and surrounded by pine. A silk-braided cord strung through the tobacco box and attached to the pipe case, keeps its ivory ojime carved with amusing Okame masks in place. This charming set is in very good condition. Length: pipecase 8", tobacco box 3" Height (tobacco box): 3" 19th Century, Japan
