A BEAUTIFUL SILVER OVER COPPER PIERCED AND FOOTED BOWL WITH UNUSUAL CROWN DESIGN. Probably of French origin. 19th Century. Marked on the underside with indistinct marks (see enlargement 6). The bowl has a height of approximately 3 1/4 inches with a width of 7 inches. The pierced bowl features, in the center, an applied cast CROWN similar in design to the British Royal crown but with a fleur-de-lys motif which implies a French attribution (see enlargements 3 & 8). The strainer is designed with a long twisted prong that may be attached to the teapot by inserting it into the teapot's spout when pouring the tea thus allowing for one's hands to be free for handling a cup in one hand and the teapot in the other. AN ANTIQUE STERLING SILVER MECHANICAL TOOTHPICK. Birmingham, England, 1896. Fully hallmarked with the maker's mark A.B & CO., anchor, lion passant, date letter. The piece has engine turned engraving and is set with a purple stone at the top (amethyst?).
