The original woodblock by EDMUND EVANS (1826-1905) for the book "Hey Diddle Diddle" by Randolph Caldecott (1846-1886). First published, London: George Routledge, (1882). DOROTHY P. LATHROP (1891-1980). WOOD-ENGRAVING. SELF-PORTRAIT "JASPA & ME". The image measures 9" x 8" on paper measuring 15 1/2" x 10 3/4". The artist's self-portrait depicts her holding her pet monkey "JASPA" on her left shoulder. His tail curls around her right shoulder. Jaspa was Lathrop's model for a number of her children's books. A strong and highly detailed composition. Unsigned. From the artist's estate.
