A vintage composition PIRATE DOLL. Circa 1930s. The doll has been dressed as a pirate. He wears a blue velvet coat, cream silk shirt and tan trousers accented with a red silk cummerbund. The doll lacks the lower half of his left leg and carries a cane. He also has a key tucked inside his cummerbund. As a final touch, there is a jaunty parrot perched on his left shoulder. A hollow-cast figure of the Farmer, Blackpool, Fylde Box Co., circa 1950. Noted by Joplin as a common figure which was made by several factories - the attribution to Fylde is made because of "MFG" stamped on the base. Pictured on page 127 of Norman Joplin's book "The Great Book Of Hollow-Cast Figures" pub. 1993. Original paint with only very minor loss. Measures 2 1/4 inches in height.
