A fine VICTORIAN SCOTTISH 12K GOLD, JASPER, and MOSS AGATE DIRK BROOCH. Circa 1880s. Not marked but tests for 12K gold. There is a hinged straight pin on the back with a C clasp. The brooch is formed as a Scottish dirk with finely engraved gold work and set with typical Scottish "pebbles". The brooch is formed as a crescent and is set with nine pearls alternating with ten round faceted natural sapphires (each set in four prongs). The fine quality pearls each measure approximately 2.70-2.80mm and have a light cream rose color and high lustre. The ten sapphires measure from 2.10-2.40mm with an estimated total carat weight of 0.80ct.t.w. Gross weight 3.70 grams.
