The drawing depicts a full length figure of a young girl in period costume and wide-brimmed hat. Her arms are folded across her bodice. This drawing is apparently an early version of one of the figures (figure on the left) shown in the frontispiece of Greenaway's 1889 Almanack. In the final version, the girl is carrying a closed fan.
