THE QUEEN'S GIFT BOOK.1916.ARTHUR RACKHAM ILLUSTRATIONS
THE QUEEN'S GIFT BOOK. In Aid Of QUEEN MARY'S CONVALESCENT AUXILIARY HOSPITALS For Soldiers And Sailors Who Have Lost Their Limbs In The War. London, New York, Toronto: Hodder & Stoughton, (1916). Foreword by John Galsworthy. 4to. Blue cloth. Twelve full-page tipped-in color plates and numerous black and white illustrations. This World War I volume features contributions by the leading authors and illustrators of the day. The authors include Arthur Conan Doyle, Ernest Thompson Seton, James Barrie, John Buchan, Joseph Conrad, et al. The illustrators are represented by Arthur Rackham, Charles and W. Heath Robinson, Ernest Shepard, Charles Brock, et al. The Arthur Rackham contribution is for "The Soot Fairies" - a story by Beatrice Harraden - (please see enlargements 4, 5, and 6 for Rackham details). There is a dated ink inscription, for Christmas 1916, on the front free endpaper, and light soiling and wear to the cloth covers, otherwise in very good condition. The contents are sound.
