| A HAND-PAINTED PORCELAIN SCENIC PLATE. Circa 1850. Identified on the back "Vale of Athol" (sic). The manufacturer and artist is unknown however there is a number "2757" painted in red on the back. Also, there is an impressed REGISTRY MARK on the back which is indistinct. The plate features a border with an EGG AND DART rim in heavy gilt. Next, in order, is a turquoise beaded band; a Greek Key band; and a dotted zig-zag band (see enlargement 4 for details). The center of the plate has a beautiful HAND-PAINTED SCENE showing BLAIR CASTLE in the distance. Blair Castle is the ancient seat of the Dukes and Earls of ATHOLL and is situated near Pitlochry in Highland Perthshire, Scotland. The plate measures 9 inches in diameter. In excellent condition with no chips or cracks. | |||||||||
